Valhalla

Valhalla (known in German as Walhalla) is this gigantic hall with 540 giant gates which is ruled by Odin.  All warriors that have honorably died in battles are brought here by the Valkyries.  A wolf guards the western gate and a eagle hovers above it for protection.

Two wolves named Gere and Freke lived in Valhalla and were the pets of Odin.  When Odin sat on his throne in Valhalla, he das 2 raven companions sit on his shoulders.  Their names were Hugin and Munin whose job was to daily fly out into the world and report to Odin everything that humans were doing.

King Ludwig I inspired by Norse Mythology actually built a mammoth temple that he named Walhalla in the 19th century and modeled it after the Greek Pantheon.  Leo von Klenze was the architect to design such a masterpiece.

Location of this Valhalla is about 10 km south of Regensburg Germany and is since the end of WWII owned by the State Bavaria.
