The aurochs represented in this symbol was a wild bison, now extinct, somewhat like the North American buffalo, and once common in Northern Europe.

It is a significant indicator of masculine energy and strength not related to physical strength, but rather to emotional strength as in being able to control the "self" and "ego". Bearing these two factors in mind, it is easy to understand the meanings allotted to UR in a rune cast.

This rune is also known as Uruz.
