Midgard Serpent aka Jormangund
The Midgard serpent was the second child of Loki and the giant Angraboda. (Their first child was Fenrir, a giant wolf and the first child was Hal). The Midgard Serpent surrounded the entire Nordic world and had her mouth biting tightly down into her tail making a tight huge circle. Thor the god of thunder and this serpent were bitter enemies. Thor tried to kill her by luring her up with a fishing rod and a cow head as bait, but his helper cut the line in the last minute because he was to scared that she might pull him down and devour him. On another occation, Thor made a bet that he could lift and hold up a cat, but in reality it was the serpent who changed her appearance and Thor was not strong enough to lift her up. At the end of the world during Ragnarok, he managed to kill her but ended up dead thru her venom.
